Eyeworth Pond in the New Forest is a relic of the Schultze Gunpowder Factory for which it was created to provide water in the mid 19th century. By 1920 the factory had ceased production and closed, today the pond is a haven for wildlife.

Although a quiet haven for wildlife the continual arguing between two families of Coots provided noisy interludes...

...with a female Mallard also joining in.

Ponies grazing on Penn Common...

...and a couple of walkers stretching their legs.

A few more of the residents of the common...

...a donkey on the lookout for food, unfortunately you're not allowed to feed forest animals...

...while this sow was content to grub around in the mud.

After all the rain we've had this winter the New Forest is very wet underfoot, but looks rather picturesque in the sun.
